Kiddie Smiles - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Kiddie Smiles?
Kiddie Smiles offers FREE on-site dental check-ups for children at your kindergarten, through the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), fully subsidised by Medicare and supported by the Australian Federal Government. Our mission is to make dental care accessible and fun for young children, helping them develop healthy, lifelong oral habits.
Who is eligible for the free dental check-ups?
Every child at the Kindergarten will receive a check up with us. To participate in our program, simply fill out the consent form and return to your centre.
Do parents need to pay for the dental check-up?
No, the dental check-ups are fully subsidised by Medicare through the CDBS, so there is no out-of-pocket cost to parents, guardians or the Kindergarten Centre. This program is sponsored by the Australian Federal Government to ensure children have access to essential dental care.
What does the dental check-up include?
Our on-site dental check-ups include a comprehensive examination of your child’s teeth, gums, and mouth. We will check for any early signs of dental issues, provide professional cleaning, and offer guidance on oral hygiene practices to help keep your child's smile healthy.
How do I book an appointment for my Kindergarten?
Booking an appointment is simple! Just contact us via phone or email, or speak to your kindergarten’s coordinator, who may already have a partnership with Kiddie Smiles to arrange dental check-ups on-site.
What happens if my child needs treatment after the check-up?
If we identify any issues during the check-up, we will inform you via the report that is sent home. This also includes details on how to find a public dental clinic or you can visit your local private dentist. Depending on your child's needs and eligibility, further treatment may also be covered under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS).
Where do the dental check-ups take place?
We provide on-site dental services at your child’s kindergarten or childcare centre, making it easy and convenient for parents and carers. The dental team will bring all necessary equipment and create a comfortable space for the check-up.
How often should my child have a dental check-up?
It's recommended that children visit the dentist twice a year for routine check-ups, even if they’re not experiencing any discomfort. Early dental visits help prevent potential issues and build a positive relationship with dental care.
What if my child is nervous about the dentist?
We understand that many children may feel nervous about dental visits, so we take extra care to create a gentle and reassuring environment. Our team is experienced in working with young children and will help them feel comfortable every step of the way. We also offer fun, child-friendly education to make the experience enjoyable.
